Rain falls on wildfire near Meeker

Aspen, CO Colorado

MEEKER, Colo. ” Rain, clouds, lower temperatures and higher humidity have helped keep a 971-acre wildfire near Meeker from spreading.

Rain began falling Sunday morning, and it’s expected to continue through Monday.

Firefighters are working to contain the east side of the fire near private property, but the west side is being allowed to burn.

On the east side, the fire is now 80 percent contained. Fire officials don’t expect any more measurable growth, unless warm and dry conditions return.

The fire is burning seven miles northwest of Meeker in the Windy Gulch Wilderness Study Area. It’s one of several that were started by lightning in northwest Colorado last week.
