Racing update
Heavy snows this last weekend forced us to postpone the first weekend of racing in The Aspen Times Town Race Series. Based on the huge grins to be seen on the hill, this decision did not much bother anyone.
But in case you missed the news: The first advanced division giant slalom will now be held this Saturday, while the first recreational division giant slalom of the season will be held on Sunday. Both races are on Thunderbowl run at Aspen Highlands.
The Town Race Series is comprised of three slaloms and three giant slaloms spread over the months of January, February and March. It is fun, a great way to make new friends and really improves your skiing.
Prior race experience is not necessary. In fact, there is a free prerace clinic offered before every competition. After the race, you can watch yourself on the video replay while enjoying free beer provided by Michelob Ultra.
Skiers with prior experience should enter the advanced division, while snowboarders, telemarkers and skiers with limited or no race experience should enter the Sunday recreational division.
Race sign-up is at the Thunderbowl Cafe from 8:30-11 the morning of the competition. If you have questions, contact the Highlands race department at 544-3005 or the racer hotline at 544-3029.
