Put the politician to the metal

Dear Editor:I have a few questions I hope that readers, particularly those who are running for offices in Pitkin County this November, can answer:1. Why was money spent on State Patrol officers to watch asphalt dry this past week? Why were they not issuing tickets to speeding drivers on Highway 82?2. Why was money spent by the city, county and state to provide officers to keep the president of Iraq safe as he drove through Aspen instead of using that money to patrol Highway 82 and issue tickets to speeding drivers?3. Why would a Pitkin County sheriff’s deputy tell me that RFTA drivers are directed to meet their schedule no matter what it takes?Today, on this lazy Sunday, Kevin in RFTA bus No. 364 must have thought he was not going to keep his schedule and decided to drive 65 mph in a 55 zone. What was the rush Kevin? A reader recently wrote about her experience with a RFTA bus doing 70 mph in Snowmass Canyon.4. Why was Ken Lay’s death given more Aspen press than the death of a 16-year-old from Coal Mountain HS who died in a car accident?5. Why is RFTA allowed to get away with their constant reckless driving throughout our community?6. Why is there not money available to crack down on the severe problem of speeding drivers in our valley? 7. It is election time. Candidates, what do have to say about this issue?Kim VieiraAspen
