Public input sought on power-line work

The Aspen Ranger District is asking for comments on a proposal by Holy Cross Electric Association to bury a power line along Highway 82 near the entrance to Difficult Campground, east of Aspen.

Under the National Environmental Protection Act (NEPA), an environmental analysis may need to be done on the project, as it would involve some National Forest property. Calling for comments is the first step in the NEPA process.

The project may qualify for exclusion from the environmental analysis process, however, if it is considered a continuation of a minor special use of National Forest lands requiring less than five acres.

Aspen District Ranger Rob Iwamoto is calling for interested parties to advise the U.S. Forest Service of aspects of this project that should be examined.

Comments should be received by the Aspen Ranger District by Sept. 24. Send comments to: U.S. Forest Service; Attn. Allan Grimshaw; 806 W. Hallam St.; Aspen, CO 81611.

For more information, contact Grimshaw, project manager, at the Aspen Ranger District office, 925-3445.
