Psyched to be a woman |

Psyched to be a woman

Dear Editor:I am an eighth-grader at Aspen Middle School. A couple weeks ago I attended this program called Girls to Women.I didn’t expect much of it, but by the time I got home I was psyched to become a woman! Here is an overview of the special occasion: Ten schools participated in the day-long event where each girl chooses to interview nine women about their job. Then you learn how to budget your money, what to expect in high school (by the soon-to-be seniors), and self defense. Paradise Bakery supplies lunch and snacks, and you get a goody bag on your way out. It was a lot more fun than I thought it would be.I want to thank Sue Smedsted especially, because she worked so hard to make this happen! I thought it was cool to learn about the jobs I am interested in – like a chef or interior decorator. The whole program was interesting, and I think it’s very beneficial. There was such a variety of jobs and it made me realize that a girl can become anyone of them!Thank you Sue and the Aspen Youth Center!Gracie NicholsAspen
