Protect yourself

Dear Editor:

Kudos to Sheldon Fingerman for reminding us that we all need to be personally responsible for our safety. Our law enforcement officers are well-trained and professional, and we are so grateful to have them, but they cannot be everywhere all the time.

The key is not just what protection method you choose, but that you are using legal methods and are well-trained, whether it’s martial arts, Taser, firearm, and just being aware of your surroundings.

Yes, it’s very sad that we have to worry about protecting ourselves and our family’s property against criminal elements, but that is a fact of the human condition. There are those who would do us harm, even in our small, seemingly well-secured valley.

The best option, of course, is to avoid risky situations. However, sometimes you may find yourself in such a scenario by accident. If you do, you’ll be glad you know how to deal with the situation.
