Proper respect

Dear Editor:

As a candidate for mayor, I think it is important that voters get to hear what I think in respect to issues as they arise.

I have always supported the building of an outdoor pool as an amenity for visitors and locals alike ” especially for kids. Recently, our mayor has been pushing construction of Burlingame as an opportunity because construction prices are down. If that is true, then why abandon the pool ” the same opportunity exists for it as any construction project. I will be investigating further over the next few days.

My next comment has to do with Mick’s recent statements in The Aspen Times, “We don’t need ‘please come to Aspen where we have $85 appetizers,'” he said, adding the days of branding Aspen as a high-end luxury market may be over given the national economy. Followed by, “We need to get the word out that you can actually afford to come here,” Ireland added. “We’ve got to send a message that we’re welcoming to the other 95 percent of the tourist base … not just the Bernie Madoff victims.”

I understand Mick does not like the wealthier segment of the population. He did once say, “The rich have ruined Aspen,” but come on ” does he think insulting victims of Bernie Madoff is appropriate?

Mick, you are currently the mayor of Aspen ” all of Aspen, not just those who voted for you. Will you ever realize everyone who lives here is due proper respect?
