Blue Lake Preschool in El Jebel was closed Thursday, and Eagle County authorities said they were investigating concerns raised by the preschool director.

Michelle Oger, director of the affiliated Blue Lake and Little Blue preschools told parents in emails forwarded to the Glenwood Springs Post Independent that an incident involving a dispute between a teacher and her boyfriend “caused us to look closely at our security and safety processes.”

“There were no injuries or damage to the school of any kind,” she wrote.

Oger, in a telephone conversation, declined to comment further.

In a second email to parents Thursday afternoon, she said the schools were closed after the boyfriend, who “has been perceived to threaten some members of the Blue Lake staff” was seen in the preschool parking lot late Wednesday afternoon.

“After this event, the board (of directors) collectively and unanimously decided that it was in the best interest of the children, staff and community to close the school while the authorities have an opportunity to ascertain the severity of the threat,” Oger wrote.

The schools will reopen today, she wrote, with “heightened security in place at Blue Lake Preschool during the hours of 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.,” along with other measures.

Eagle County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Jessie Moser said the incident was under investigation and the agency couldn’t release details. However, she said that as far as she knew, the incident did not involve a weapon being brought to the preschool.
