Powerful memories in France
Dear Editor:Jim and I were fortunate to be able to visit the Normandy region of France last month. We went to the beaches, we visited the cemeteries, and we went to the museum. From 1938 to 1944, six years, 50 million people lost their lives as a result of this conflict. It was a moving experience.I thought you might like this poem.Ode To D-DayWe became a hearty band of pilgrimsas we trod the gravesin a field of countless soldiers,so innocent, so brave.The flags waved in the distance.Silent ramparts silhouetted the ocean view.Remember us who died hereThe wind whispered in our ears.Live life to the fullest.Each day.Each month.Each year.Jane J.
