Power of the arts

Dear Editor:

Bravo to Aspen and Basalt high schools!

Aspen Community Theatre would like to congratulate two of the valley’s high schools for wonderful spring musicals: Aspen High School’s outstanding production of “The Boyfriend” and Basalt High School’s fabulous “Bye Bye Birdie”!

Brad Moore, Marnie White, Marisa Post and John Goss, among many others, are doing a fantastic job of bringing theater arts to the valley’s students. It is great to see these talented kids, some of whom are ACT alumni, active both on stage and off and to have so many people coming to the theaters supporting them.

The arts have a unique ability to communicate ideas and emotions, connecting us to our history, our traditions and our heritage. At the same time, a growing body of research indicates that education in the arts provides significant cognitive benefits and bolsters academic achievement.

It is our sincere hope that the Roaring Fork Valley will continue to support our schools in their efforts to enrich the valley’s youth with the power of the arts. Thank you to everyone involved for a job very well done!
