Poor decisions were made

Dear Editor:I am writing this letter to clarify my thoughts on the Basalt-versus-Roaring Fork game on Feb. 3 (“Basalt mayor tossed from hoops game,” Feb. 6).First and foremost, I think everyone needs to know that I have known Mr. Duroux for close to 20 years. Mr. Duroux and his wife have supported my officiating career since the beginning. It is truly unfortunate that in the heat of the moment we both made some poor decisions. I have the utmost respect for Mr. Duroux and his family for their longstanding support of Basalt athletic programs. The Duroux family supports these programs year-in and year-out whether they have had a child participating or not. Mr. Duroux has given endless amounts of time and energy to the school and to his community. As I mentioned before, in the heat of the moment some poor decisions were made. We all need to remember that high school athletics is about the student-athletes.Jay RickstrewRifle
