Poll: Keep those noisy bikes quiet

It would appear there will not be Hell’s Angels conventions here in Aspen anytime soon.

The people who responded to our weekly poll this week came out strongly in favor of the police department’s announcement it plans to crack down on loud motorcycles by issuing “disturbing the peace” tickets.

Eighty-two percent of the respondents say they favor efforts to keep the town a little bit more quiet, while 18 percent felt the crackdown is unnecessary.

This week we shall turn our attention to the peaceful Maroon Bells. The Forest Service is currently building a large, “bunker-like” bus stop/restroom facility near Maroon Lake, which some have said negatively affects the natural atmosphere of the area.

The Forest Service now plans to build a similar structure near the lake to be used as a visitor center. Another option that has been discussed is putting the center in new buildings at Aspen Highlands Village.

So our question this week is: Should the Maroon Bells visitor center be built at Maroon Lake?
