Poll: Did the school board do the right thing?

With last week’s tentative agreement by the board of the Roaring Fork School District to extend Superintendent Diana Sirko’s contract, albeit by less time than originally planned, a hot topic in the Roaring Fork Valley, this week’s poll question asks whether compromising on the contract extension was the right thing to do considering that many parents wanted Assistant Superintendent Rob Stein to take over.

Go to http://www.aspentimes.com, on the left side below the news carousel, to find this week’s question and the results of previous polls.

Last week’s poll question — “Do you shop locally for the holidays?” — generated 579 votes. Aspen is too expensive, according to 332 “no” votes, or 57.34 percent. Another 121 voters, or 20.90 percent, like to support local businesses and voted “yes.” Shoppers who try to buy locally but also end up shopping online, too, accounted for 81 votes, or 13.99 percent, and the remaining 45 votes, or 7.77 percent, only shop online because it’s cheap and convenient.
