Police on lookout for escapee

Aspen Times Staff Report

Local law enforcement authorities are asking for help in locating an escaped convict who may be living in the lower Roaring Fork Valley.

Misael Ortega-Sereseres, who turns 26 on Tuesday, escaped from a correctional facility on the state’s eastern plains on July 28, 1999, and has been on the loose ever since, according to Pitkin County Sheriff’s Investigator Bruce Benjamin.

Benjamin said the man escaped by climbing into a garbage truck and hiding as the truck drove out through the prison gates.

He is described as being 6-foot-2, about 150 pounds and has brown hair and brown eyes. He has been known to wear his hair long, in a curly pile on top of his head, and to grow a beard and mustache, according to pictures sent along with the Colorado Department of Corrections bulletin.

Valley police got word last week that Ortega-Sereseres, who also goes by the names Falco or Juan, was seen in the El Jebel area not long ago. He has family in New Castle, Benjamin said, and spent considerable time here in his late teens and early 20s.

There is a $1,000 reward offered for any information that leads to Ortega-Sereseres’ capture, Benjamin said.

Anyone who sees him is advised not to contact or apprehend him, but to call police. In Pitkin County, Benjamin can be reached at 920-5300.
