Police investigating report of sexual assault at Aspen Recreation Center

Aspen police are investigating a report of a sexual assault involving two minors that allegedly occurred at the Aspen Recreation Center late Friday morning.

Assistant Police Chief Bill Linn confirmed that an investigation is underway. No arrest had been made as of 3 p.m. Tuesday. Police were dispatched to the recreation center at 12:02 p.m. Friday.

The report came from a third party, Linn said. The incident is said to have involved a 14-year-old female victim and a 16-year-old boy.

“The situation remains under investigation,” Linn said. “There do not appear to be any further public safety issues related to this case.”

Linn declined comment on whether the alleged incident occurred indoors or outdoors on recreation-center property.

Deputy District Attorney Tony Hershey, who manages juvenile criminal cases, said prosecutors planned to meet Tuesday afternoon to discuss the matter. He declined further comment.
