Police identify dead woman

A woman who was found dead in her home Thursday has been identified as Beverly Richards, 43.The Pitkin County Coroner’s Office reported on Friday that the cause of death was a drug overdose, although whether her death was accidental is still under investigation. The woman lived at the Beaumont Inn, which is owned by Aspen Valley Hospital and used as employee housing.Richards was found at 11:15 a.m. by friends or neighbors who kicked down the door. She had reportedly been dead for some time. No foul play is expected in her death, said Detective Chris Womack of the Aspen Police Department.Richards worked in the finance department of the hospital, Womack said. The time of death is unknown, and other details, including the circumstance surrounding her death, are still under investigation.Pitkin County Coroner Dr. Steve Ayers said the type of drug that caused Richards’ death is unknown at this time. Officials have contacted her family in Utah and Illinois to inform them of her death.
