Police Department to christen new building with party
Aspen police are in the mood to celebrate the opening of their new building and they want area residents and the public in general to join them today at noon for a grand opening.
Festivities will begin with a barbecue at 11:30 in front of the new $20.9 million Aspen Police Department headquarters at 540 E. Main Street, which will lead up to a ribbon-cutting ceremony at noon and tours of the new facility after that.
The 18,515 square-foot building has been under construction since November 2016. Police Chief Richard Pryor has said it the department’s 28 officers and five community resource officers plus administrative and support staff should be moved in by the end of June.
The department has been housed in the basement of the Pitkin County Courthouse since the 1980s.
Despite being a big star, Norway’s Henrik Kristoffersen has frequently connected with the young AVSC athletes while training at Aspen Highlands over the years.
