Pledge a pet

Dear Editor:

The Animal Rescue Foundation, or ARF, is pleased to announce that it has recently adopted out its 500th animal! We would like to thank everyone who has helped make the last five years a success. In just five years, with the help of dedicated volunteers, adopting and foster families, generous sponsors, donors and the support of local businesses, grants and other supporters, we have placed 500 dogs and cats in new homes. Virtually none of those animals would be alive today if not for the hard work of so many compassionate people.

In 2007 we placed 100 pets in new homes. We started 2008 with incredible momentum, a bigger and motivated volunteer base and a passion to save even more pets. We have adopted out almost 50 animals so far this year. All of this does not come cheaply. Boarding, vaccinations, spaying and neutering, plus specialized care for unique cases ” it all adds up, and the adoption fees fall significantly short of our expenses. Therefore, we ask the community to continue to support us by making a “Pledge a Pet” commitment. By pledging any amount for each animal adopted out in 2008, you can help us support those awaiting a permanent, loving home.

Thanks to a generous matching pledge, every dollar pledged in the Pledge a Pet program will be doubled. What could be a more efficient way to help animals in need? For less than the cost of a latte a week, you can save a life. Our goal is to receive $100 per animal in pledges, which, once matched, will defray the difference between our medical and boarding costs, and our adoption fees. Be assured that every penny of your pledge goes directly to helping the animals and nothing else.

We do not yet have a shelter. We don’t have a single paid employee. We need and hope to have both in the near future. Together, we can work to ensure that no animal will be refused a safe harbor for lack of funds.

We look forward to another fantastic year of helping many wonderful pets find forever homes. We encourage anyone interested to learn more about us or to Pledge a Pet at http://www.arf-colorado.com and join us in our quest to save more animals each year. Adopt, donate, volunteer, foster ” there are so many ways to help. Be the change. It’ll change your life too.
