Plea for buttons

Our first grade teacher has been trying to collect 1 million clothing buttons for the past three years. We now have close to 50,000 buttons. We’re getting closer to our goal, but we still have a long way to go.

Collecting buttons is a great way to practice our counting. It is also a fun way to learn about new places. Buttons have been sent to us from all over the world.

When packages arrive we look at the return addresses. Then, we mark our giant map, which helps us to learn about geography. Over the years, our teacher told us that her children have written over 100 letters to people to try to collect more buttons.

One of the best things of all is that we have opportunities to read stories about the buttons we receive. We love when people tell us where their buttons came from. Our teacher keeps all of the stories in a big book so we can remember how special buttons have been to some people.

So, if you have any buttons you would like to donate to our classroom, please mail them to: Mary’s First Grade, c/o Aspen Elementary School, 0235 High School Road, Aspen, CO 81611.
