Pitkin County offering second year of internship program to local students

Pitkin County will be offering an internship program to Roaring Fork Valley high school students, with seven internships available across seven departments in the county, according to a press release.
The internship starts on June 16 and goes through July 11, with applications open now through April 30. It will be open to rising juniors, seniors, and recent high school graduates, offering prospective interns experience in local government.
According to students who participated in the internship program in its inaugural year last year, the program provided insight into how the government works and what kind of careers they would like to pursue.
“The idea was to give students the opportunity to understand what we do, and also it would be an opportunity for them to learn about themselves,” said Tania Kelly, who will be managing the intern program. “We’re thinking about the future workforce, what they want to do in the future.”
The internship pays $21.82 per hour. Pitkin County will begin the interview process in early May.
