Pitkin Alert system now available

PITKIN COUNTY ” Pitkin Alert, an emergency notification system that aims to better inform the public about major crisis and related events, debuted Friday.

The system is set up so that residents and business owners can receive alerts through text messages, e-mail, wireless and standard telephones.

People can register for the free alerts at pitkinalert.org. Alert options range from severe weather alerts to road closures and evacuation notices.

Emergency notifications will originate from the Aspen-Pitkin County Communications Center.

The dispatch area includes Pitkin County and parts of Gunnison and Eagle counties, the Aspen-Pitkin County Emergency Telephone Service Authority said.
