Picking Basalt’s next mayor, Town Council

Dear Editor:

Basalt’s mail-in ballots have arrived, and we’re asking you to please vote for Jacque Whitsitt for mayor. Jacque is fully in touch with a range of Basalt issues thanks to her long service on council but also her active volunteer work in education, environment and transportation, including English in Action, the Roaring Fork Transportation Authority, the Colorado Association of Ski Towns, Colorado Mountain College and CLEER.

She worked incredibly hard to get the mill levy for our schools passed this fall. It’s scary to think that without people like Jacque backing it, a similar initiative in Garfield County’s Re-2 district failed, and now it’s going to a four-day school week.

We’re also voting for Rob Leavitt, Hershel Ross and Bill Maron for Town Council, with the idea that new faces and fresh blood are a good thing for our town. In particular, Rob will be the only Town Council member with children in the Basalt schools. He’s also a classic local guy, a ski instructor who enjoys the occasional bourbon, which means he’s open to meeting up at the bar to hear your thoughts.
