Physics is for kids

Dear Editor:We attended the recent Wednesday night Physics-is-for-Kids BBQ and Lecture with George Stranahan and Walter Isaacson on Einstein’s special relativity. Although we tried, we never understood special relativity until that night. We are looking forward to the rest of the BBQs and Lectures! Stop by for free food and fun Wednesdays from 5-6:30 p.m. on the grounds of the Aspen Center for Physics. We are also excited about the start of the Aspen Science Center’s Summer Science Camps, especially The Physics of Superheroes, with Professor Kakalios from the University of Minnesota. If you haven’t heard him chat with Ira Flatow on NPR, or read his new book, you’ll be surprised at how funny and understandable physics can be! You’ll either get a mesmerizing introduction to physics or find out how well you really understand those equations and laws! By the end of the week, you’ll be able to figure out whether Gwen Stacy really died from the fall, how much force Superman needs to leap a tall building, and what the Flash knows about special relativity! We attended a couple of summer camps last summer, and they are some of the best science classes we have ever taken; you’ll see us at them again! Ask us more about them next Wednesday at the BBQ, or check out http://www.aspensciencecenter.com.Ellen and Nathan Klein, 15 and 12 years oldSemiprofessional (aka Unpaid Kid) ScientistsSnowmass Village/St. Paul, Minn.
