Aspen educators and community members marched on Thursday to advocate for stronger state support for public education. This was part of a statewide day of action to rally against public education funding cuts.
Those who took part were asked to meet in front of Aspen Middle School shortly after school let out. From there, ralliers walked down to the roundabout and help up signs while waving at vehicles as they passed by.
Class was not be affected by the march.
The rallies were held as the state legislature considers a change to enrollment determination methods, which could cut nearly $150 million in education-related spending next year, according to the state, as it faces a $1.2 billion budget shortfall.
