Petro on the go in Snowmass?
The plan that could move the gas station in Snowmass Village to town property near the rodeo lot garnered negative comments from citizens during Monday’s Town Council meeting.
The Town Council tabled public discussion on a report done by the Snowmass Financial Advisory Board until Nov. 20. That is the same day when a decision will likely be made about who will operate a service station at the rodeo grounds. The report from the town’s financial advisory board recommended the town assess the value of its property.Snowmass resident Mel Blumenthal made it clear that he felt the town should have a public discussion about the report before moving forward – though the two topics are now both scheduled for the Nov. 20 meeting. “I have a deep concern about the substance of the FAB report,” said Blumenthal. “The policy implications and things being considered need public discussion.”
Mayor Douglas Mercatoris said the discussion on the FAB report had been scheduled for Nov. 20, and would stay that way. He also said the decision may or may not happen concerning who will be the operator of the station, even though the agenda item is listed as “Consideration of a resolution of acceptance for an operator of the service station.”People also have expressed concern that out-of-town service station operators did not have enough time to submit a bid, which favors Snowmass Conoco owner Jeff Jandigan.
“What is the rush?,” asked Snowmass resident Tom Yocum, who had questions concerning the environment, the Brush Creek Corridor and view planes. “I have written to you and asked these same questions and gotten no response.” Mercatoris said he would not try to answer the questions from Yocum, Blumenthal and two others. Councilwoman Sally Sparhawk said there had been a good deal of open discussion about the gas station, and Councilman Arnie Mordkin encouraged people to express views on Nov. 20.Joel Stonington’s e-mail address is firstname.lastname@example.org
