Petey Platek " the ‘best of the best’

Dear Editor:

The shock of losing someone like Petey Platek is overwhelming. I’ve known him since he was a kid. I taught him to play the banjo. My kids worked with him for years at Peter O’Grady’s catering company. If all the tragedy that exists in this poor world wasn’t enough to convince you, then losing Petey should take care of it. Life isn’t fair, and though I wouldn’t deny some supreme entity out there, it’s clear that he isn’t getting involved with us on an individual basis.

Petey had a handicap ” he was damn near blind ” but try to keep up with him on a mountain bike, or preparing food for 500 people or on skis. He lived life to its absolute fullest, and with no complaints. He was an absolute joy to be around and worked harder than most any of us. He was a serious musician and singer, banjo and guitar player, and always held up his end of the bargain. Three years ago Petey became a father, after never thinking that he would have the chance. Our hearts reach out to Diane and his son, Bryce. I hope someday that Bryce will have a chance to understand just how special his dad was. He was the best of the best in this little town, and we’ll always miss him. Diane, it goes without saying that we’re all so sorry for you, but I’m thankful that you’ve got a little guy who will carry Petey with you in the years ahead.
