Permits to cut Christmas trees available

ASPEN – Christmas-tree cutting permits will be available beginning today from all offices of the White River National Forest.
Christmas-tree cutting is allowed in most areas on the White River National Forest with the following exceptions: wilderness areas, commercial timber sales, recreation and ski areas, administrative areas and Glenwood Canyon. Maps showing where Christmas-tree cutting is allowed are available at all offices where permits are sold. Permits cost $10 each, and there is a limit of five permits per individual. The permits must be attached to the tree prior to cutting and must be left on the tree until it arrives at its final destination.
Permits will be available from:
• Sopris Ranger Station, 620 Main St., Carbondale. Monday through Friday during normal office hours. Call 970-925-3445 or 970-963-2266 for additional information.
• Rifle Ranger District, 0094 County Road 244, Rifle. Monday through Friday during normal office hours. Call 970-625-2371 for additional information.
• White River Forest Supervisor’s Office, 900 Grand Ave., Glenwood Springs. Monday through Friday between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Call 970-945-2521 for additional information.
All Forest Service offices will be closed on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, Nov. 24.
SILT, Colo. – Permits for cutting Christmas trees on Bureau of Land Management lands will be available beginning Monday from the BLM office in Silt.
Permits are $10 per tree with a limit of two trees per household.
BLM permits are available Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Colorado River Valley Field Office at 2300 River Frontage Road in Silt.
Anyone cutting trees on BLM land is required to have a permit in their possession. Special permits for more than two trees must be approved by the authorized forestry representative.
Christmas-tree cutting is permitted on most BLM lands administered by the Colorado River Valley Field Office in Eagle, Garfield, Mesa and Pitkin counties with the following exceptions: wilderness study areas, Deep Creek along Coffee Pot Road, Thompson Creek Natural Area and Garfield Creek south of New Castle. A map of these areas is available with the cutting permit.
