Permanent kickback

Although Aspen Valley Hospital denies bribery and unethical practices accusations in the first paragraph of “Hospital slams bribery accusations” (Aspen Times, July 23), muckrackers and brilliant social scientists like Ida Tarbell, who took on John D. Rockefeller, Sr. and his Standard Oil Trust, would simply call it a “permanent kickback” to the city of Aspen in the annexation “quid pro quo.”

We Americans see how blatantly openly the “Aspen spinach quiche crowd” disregards the public trust, thumbs its noses at the Stars and Stripes and makes government deals: Aspen City Council, Aspen City Manager Steve Barwick and Aspen Valley Hospital board of directors.

What else is on their backburner for our “future shock”?
