Pedestrian killed near Aspen Village

A pedestrian crossing Highway 82 was hit by a car and killed late Friday night near Aspen Village, roughly nine miles west of Aspen.

Just after 11 p.m., Eduardo Torres-Reyes, 23, drove through the intersection of Highway 82 and Aspen Village Road and hit a male pedestrian with his 2011 Chevrolet Cruze, according to the Colorado State Patrol. The pedestrian, believed to be in his 40s or 50s, was pronounced dead at the scene. The cause of the crash is still under investigation, and the pedestrian’s name is being held pending positive identification.

Neither Torres-Reyes nor his male passenger was injured in the crash.

Downvalley traffic was diverted off the highway from approximately 11:30 p.m. Friday until 3 a.m. Saturday.

The Pitkin County Sheriff’s Office, the Aspen Police Department, the Aspen Ambulance District and the Aspen Fire Department responded to the scene with the Colorado State Patrol.
