Paving to begin on Highway 82

EL JEBEL ” The Colorado Department of Transportation will begin resurfacing Highway 82 in the El Jebel/Willits area on Tuesday, Sept. 2.

The resurfacing work, between mile markers 17.5 and 21, will include a 1-inch leveling course of asphalt, which will be overlaid with another 2 inches of asphalt. The project will also include guardrail and signing improvements, and pavement markings.

For the duration of the project ” expected to be complete by late fall 2008 ” traffic will be reduced to a single lane through the work zones during non-peak periods of traffic.



During peak periods of traffic, there won’t be any construction activities or lane closures, according to CDOT. Peak periods are between 6:30 and 9 a.m. in the eastbound, or upvalley, direction and between 3:30 and 6 p.m. in the westbound, or downvalley, direction, on Monday through Friday. Work will be done during daylight hours, and possibly on some weekends, weather permitting.

The speed limit through the construction zone will be reduced to 35 mph for the safety of the project personnel and motorists, according to CDOT.




CDOT has contracted with Elam Construction, Inc., of Grand Junction, to do the work for $3.68 million.
