Passion doesn’t pay bills

The Aspen Institute’s glossy magazine “Aspen” is filled with reason. What isn’t covered is what’s went wrong with reason. Who thinks the crises the magazine deals with are the result of past reasoning? What happened to reason?
A clue is in a quote from neuroscientist Eric Haseltine: “If you want to persuade, speak to the heart. You persuade with passion, not logic.” Passion is an easy way to lead crowds and thinking is the hardest thing we individuals do. That’s why our reasoning is so weak and our political passions are so strong. The best way to strengthen reason is found in a quote from Socrates: “To find yourself, think for yourself.” And go easy of the passion.
Be brave, Comrades.
