Passenger dies in rollover crash

EAGLE COUNTY ” One person was killed in a one-vehicle crash early Friday on Gypsum Creek Road.

There were three males in a Chevrolet Silverado that apparently crashed at about 2:30 a.m., according to the Colorado State Patrol, which was notified of the accident at about 5:30 a.m. One of the passengers was pronounced dead at the scene by the Eagle County coroner, according to the patrol.

No names have yet been released.

The driver suffered serious injuries and was taken to Valley View Hospital in Glenwood Springs, the patrol said. The other passenger suffered minor injuries and was not hospitalized.

Investigators believe the vehicle was traveling south when it went off the edge of the roadway near mile post 14 and rolled one and one-quarter times, ejecting the front-seat passenger. Excessive speed and alcohol are “considered factors” in the crash, according to a State Patrol press release.

None of the vehicle’s occupants was wearing a seatbelt, the patrol said.
