Paris Hilton opts for cheese slice at New York Pizza in Aspen
The Aspen Times
Celebrities shopping in Aspen and hitting the local ski slopes during Christmas week is nothing out of the ordinary, but Paris Hilton’s Sunday night visit to New York Pizza turned a few heads.
Hilton and two friends stopped by the East Hyman Avenue pizza shop for some late-night slices and beer, according to Sam Rittgers, who was working the front counter at the time.
Hilton was friendly, Rittgers said, even agreeing to be photographed with him.
“They hung out, had some beers and pizza and chatted a little bit,” he said of Hilton and her pals. “It was pretty cool.”
The 33-year-old “celebutante” — a term sometimes applied to celebrities made famous not because of talent or work but through inherited wealth and lifestyle — even gave Rittgers a kiss on the cheek.
“That was the best part,” he said.
Though Hilton has a reputation as the spoiled offspring of big money — she’s the great-granddaughter of Hilton hotels founder Conrad Hilton — Rittgers said he didn’t witness any bratty behavior from the former reality TV actress and model.
“She’s not as bad as people say she is,” he said of the woman who in 2011 was ranked No. 46 on the Men’s Health magazine list of the “Top 100 Hottest Women of All Time.” Hilton was sandwiched between Sophia Loren at No. 47 and Michelle Pfieffer at No. 45.
Like the name of the Fox network reality show that first gave her worldwide fame in 2003, Hilton seemed to be enjoying “the simple life” at New York Pizza. She opted for a slice of cheese, Rittgers recalled.
Hilton reportedly arrived in Aspen sometime last week. The British tabloid website Daily Mail Online reported that she announced her visit Dec. 19 with the following Tweet: “Good Morning Aspen! So beautiful up here in the mountains! Can’t wait to go skiing! #SnowBunnyTime”
Photographs on the tabloid site show her skiing while “clad in a bright yellow puffy coat, … which she wore over top of a coordinating yellow fleece,” the Daily Mail reported. “She also donned black snow pants, black gloves, and light blue and white snow shoes for the wintry outing.”
Hilton also was wearing a black Chanel beanie beneath a fur-lined hood. She reportedly hid her eyes with “a pair of particularly large sunglasses,” according to the tabloid.
Model Elle Macpherson, 50, also was spotted in town with her tycoon husband, Jeffrey Soffer, a hotel heir five years her junior.
“It’s freezing cold and she’s got more layers on than usual, … but supermodel Elle Macpherson still managed to rock the ski slopes by lending a little glamour to the Aspen snow fields,” the Daily Mail said.
As with Hilton, the tabloid made a point of mentioning Macpherson’s fashion choices.
“Dressed in a Russian-style fur hat and red puffa jacket with matching sunnies, the Australian was rugged up as she took to the slopes in Colorado on Monday,” the tabloid reported. “Bare-faced and smiling broadly, Elle struck a few of the poses that have earned her the well-deserved moniker, ‘The Body.’”
The Daily Mail added that Soffer and Macpherson also were seen strolling the streets of downtown Aspen on Saturday.
“Looking very much in love, the two embraced as they walked around the shops picking up some last minute treats,” the tabloid said.
Macpherson and Soffer reportedly were married last year in Fiji. She has appeared on the cover of Sports Illustrated’s Swimsuit Issue five times, which is a record.
Also earlier this week, the website Us Weekly posted a story involving the local activities of actress Kate Hudson, whose mother, actress Goldie Hawn, has a house in Old Snowmass.
“Friendliest of exes! Kate Hudson and her ex-fiance Matthew Bellamy were spotted shopping in Aspen, Colorado, on Monday, Dec. 22, just days after Us Weekly confirmed they had called it quits earlier this month,” the magazine reported.
According to Us Weekly, Hudson and Bellamy, who are parents to a 3-year-old boy, “joined together for some last-minute holiday shopping at Boogies in downtown Aspen.”
A source reportedly told the tabloid that the former couple is committed to remaining friends.
“Kate and Matt have been separated for some time now,” Us Weekly reported. “Despite this, they remain very close friends and committed co-parents.”
On Thursday, another celebrity-focused Internet site, X17online.com, posted photographs of singer Mariah Carey and actress Melanie Griffith as they shopped separately earlier this week in Aspen’s commercial core.
