Owning up takes integrity

(Editor’s note: This letter was originally addressed to Mick Ireland.)

Dear Editor:

The reason they fix the problem and not the blame in Japan is that in Japan those at fault have enough integrity to admit they are at fault and step aside.

As a community, we have permitted mismanagement of the city for so long that we have grown to expect it.

Maybe now voters will finally link tenure of elected officials ” read mayor and council members ” to management of the city by the city managers and his/her department heads. Add to that holding council members responsible for their actions, and that should make for some lively elections and more responsible management of the city.

If not, there are a lot of qualified candidates out there.

In Japan, Mick, people have enough integrity to hold themselves accountable.
