Outfitted: Gifts for guys

Outfitted

Lucky for us, the mountain is opening early, and along with opening weekend comes the official start of the holiday season. Along with twinkly lights and pine boughs sprucing up our lives, it’s also the time of year to seek out special gifts for those loved ones we hope to give back to. Kicking off my gift recs with the guys this year, below are some items I’ll be putting under the tree.

1. DUER All-Weather Denim Jeans

Last year I got my dad a pair of jeans from plant-based company DUER, and he wears them multiple times a week. I decided to step it up a notch for him this year with DUER’s all-weather line that features a weatherproof membrane softshell for warmth and protection. I was a little worried these would be too stiff with all that extra oomph, but they are surprisingly soft and stretchy. A classic look with DUER’s signature gusset, performance fibers, and anti-microbial treatment, this powerhouse pant will be a favorite. Available in 2 different color washes as well as women’s colors and sizes. $199, ShopDuer.com

2. Royal Robbins Lieback Organic Cotton Flannel

A guy can never have too many flannels. The Lieback from Royal Robbins is made of breathable, 100% organic cotton with a brushed finish for extra softness. It’s strong enough to withstand a weekend of camping but sharp enough for a venture into town for dinner. Two drop-in pockets and a locker loop for quick hang-ups round out the features. Available in multiple colorways. $100, RoyalRobbins.com

3. Yeti Hopper M30 Tote Soft Cooler

Coolers seem to be one of the quintessential items on gift guides for men, and this one that Yeti touts as “tough-as-nails” is sure to be the biggest hit yet. New and completely re-engineered from the old Hopper that had to be recalled, this one has MagShield access with an extra-wide opening that makes loading and unloading super efficient. The ultra-strong magnet strips, along with quick-release buckles, tightly seal in the cold, and the Hopper’s Hitchpoint Grid allows for outside attachments like bottle slings and gear cases. I find the 30 liters to be the perfect size for camping weekends and road trips, and it’ll fit a whopping 42 cans of beer if he’s so inclined. Available in multiple colors. $350, Yeti.com

4. Dyson OnTrac Noise-Cancelling Headphones

Perhaps the most bougie recommendation on this list, the over-ear Dyson OnTrac headphones are quite possibly a step above anything he’s had before. With the ability to cancel up to 40dB of unwanted noise, these aluminum-bodied headphones feel lightweight and comfortable while on due to the batteries being distributed through the headband. With strong and detailed bass, mids, and highs, the OnTrac has up to 55 hours of battery life. But where the OnTrac really sparks envy is in their easily removable exterior aluminum caps and microfiber ear cushions which allow the user to create their own unique color combo. Sure to impress even the most picky of sound-hounds, the OnTrac even made Time Magazine’s Best Inventions of 2024 list. Available in countless colorways. $500, Dyson.com

5. Pendleton Wyeth Trail 16oz Insulated Mug

Pendleton Mug

Inspired by the dramatic peaks, fertile valleys, and pristine rivers along Oregon’s Wyeth Trail, this Pendleton travel mug is sure to be a favorite for any outdoor junkie. The perfect size to carry and easy to clean (it’s dishwasher-safe), the stainless steel/BPA-free mug is great at keeping hot or cold beverages right at the temperature you want them. If you want to go all out, Pendleton’s Wyeth Trail design is available a traditional wool blanket to match. $39, Pendleton-USA.com

6. Amundsen Groomer Jacket

Comprised of French corduroy and 750-fill recycled goose down, the Groomer jacket is not only a looker, it’s a sure bet for keeping winter conditions at bay. Features include an organic cotton ripstop outer with a water-repellency treatment, wool wrist cuffs, double handwarmer pockets, internal goggle and phone pockets, a helmet-compatible hood, and even a ski-pass pocket. I find that Amundsen products, including this jacket, run on the small side for me, so if in doubt, size up. Available in three different colors as well as in a women’s version. $799, AmundsenSports.com

7. Parachute Cloud Cotton Robe

Parachute Robe

With long days of work and play comes some well-earned lounge time which is when this robe from Parachute will be a favorite. Made of 100% Turkish cotton woven into a fluffy 4-ply gauze, the feel is super cozy without being too hot. A snug waist tie and two hidden side pockets round out a luxuriously relaxing piece with a comfortable fit. Machine washable and available in multiple colors. $129, ParachuteHome.com

8. Roll Recovery R8 Plus Deep Tissue Massage Tool

Although it may look a bit like a medieval torture device, the R8 Plus is sure to bring relief to all those muscles that have been overworked while out adventuring. Re-engineered and a step up from the already popular R8, the R8 Plus has an adjustment dial that accesses a mechanism hidden in the frame to reduce or increase force as needed. This FDA Registered Medical Device is designed to target IT bands, quads, hamstrings, calves, shins, gluteus, arms, and more. Using deep-tissue massage force, will improve circulation, reduce inflammation, and break up muscle adhesions for myofascial release. $169, RollRecovery.com
