Opening for Basalt town manager attracts applicants

Aspen Times Staff Report
Aspen, CO Colorado

BASALT ” The opening for Basalt town government manager’s position attracted 18 applicants by Monday’s deadline, according to town officials.

The council will likely meet within the next few weeks, narrow the field and interview the finalists, said Bill Effting, current town manager. The town won’t release the names of the 18 applicants, but will disclose the finalists once they are selected, Efting said. That is consistent with procedures of other municipalities in Colorado, he said.

The Town Council has indicated it wants a new manager in place before the end of the year. Efting announced his resignation in July, stating, “I just decided I need a change.”

He has held the post since December 2003 and has agreed to stay on as late as the end of 2008 to help with the transition.
