One event, two good causes for kids

Dear Editor:

This weekend is an exciting weekend for two exceptional local nonprofit organizations. Ita€™s the second annual 12 Hours of Snowmass mountain bike race.

One-hundred percent of the proceeds benefit both the Aspen Youth Center and Extreme Sports Camp for children with autism. These two nonprofits have come together to put on an awesome mountain bike race as well as a kick off picnic that will be fun for the whole community.

There are several ways people can get involved. Mountain bike riders can register at http://www.12hoursofsnowmass.com for Saturdaya€™s 12-hour race from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Racers can choose to ride solo, in teams of two, three, or an open team of up to 8 riders.

This year we have added two kids courses from noon to 3 p.m., so bring your family, come out and cheer on the riders, and let the kids participate in the excitement. If you arena€™t a racer, you can still support these worthy causes as well as have a blast by purchasing tickets to the Kick Off Picnic from 5-9 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 10 at Circle R Ranch in Woody Creek. Ita€™s going to be a fun evening with fabulous food by Epicure, live music by local band Slightly White along with drinks and games.

Tickets can be purchased at http://www.bellyupaspen.com and are $25 for racers, $50 for adults, and $25 for kids. I really hope you will join me in supporting this event, the Aspen Youth Center, and Extreme Sports Camp.
