Aspen official report: Very soon, the hills and valleys around Aspen will be filled with the bucolic echo of migrating elk herds as they drift down from their summer ranges in the remote high country wilderness to their traditional winter ranges on the lower flanks of local mountains.
Aspen Times mountain correspondent Corby Anderson takes you on a late-summer elk scouting trip in the lower Roaring Fork Valley in this On The Hill report. Anderson and his friend and hunting partner, Joel Belmont, take a brisk ATV ride to the trailhead to have a look around, make some plans, and stretch their legs for the upcoming elk season.
