In its third year, the backcountry marathon features nearly 4,000 feet of climbing over the 26.2-mile course. Runners started at Koch Park in Aspen, climbed Smuggler, ran into the Hunter Creek Valley, navigated Sunnyside, climbed Buttermilk and finished via the Midland Trail, Little Cloud Trail and Ajax Trail back at Koch Park.

Today’s weather: Mostly sunny, high near 78. North northwest wind at 5 to 10 mph, increasing to 15 mph in the afternoon.— National Weather Service
