On the fence?

Almost six years ago, my husband and I moved to Carbondale to be near daughters and grandchildren and fell in love with this town. I was so impressed with the town’s mission statement that I sent copies to friends back east. But for me, it is Mount Sopris that I love the most.

With fascination and interest, I’ve read the many letters pro and con about the “Marketplace,” listened to my husband and others who support it and to my daughter and friends I love and respect who are against it.

There seems to be no right or wrong, both sides having legitimate arguments for their position. Having no crystal ball – no pun intended – no one can really project what will truly happen to Carbondale’s “way of life.”

So making a decision has posed a dilemma – I don’t want major change, yet I don’t want to see services for our kids and families reduced for lack of town revenues.

To others who are “on the fence,” and perhaps considering no vote at all, I suggest thoughtful, careful evaluation of both sides and then a vote made with both your heart and mind engaged.

My greatest hope is that whatever happens, everyone will accept the vote, continue to celebrate Carbondale and work to maintain what we all love. And just think, Mount Sopris will still be here!

I am voting yes.
