On the couch

Nate Peterson

I tried to track down a pair of Broncos tickets all week, but no luck. Called around to my friends who have season tickets. Checked Ticketmaster about 20 times a day. Thought about emptying my bank account to buy a pair off a scalper on eBay or Craig’s List.Thankfully, I didn’t do anything rash. In the middle of my searching, I realized that option No. 2 was a close second to watching today’s game live at Invesco Field.Instead of making the near four-hour drive to Denver, followed by another long drive back on either Monday or Tuesday, I’ll settle for making turns in the morning, followed by a retreat to my couch to watch The Big Game. What a rough life. By not actually going to Denver, there’s a possibility I might be helping the Broncos. I haven’t been to a game all year, and the Broncos are 9-0 at home. I’m not really superstitious, but you don’t want to mess with a good thing. It’s the first time Denver’s been undefeated at home since John Elway led the Broncos to their second Super Bowl in the 1998-99 season.Maybe, by me carving turns at Highlands, I’m helping secure another trip to the Super Bowl. You know, the whole chaos theory thing? A butterfly flaps its wings in Colorado, which causes a slight change in the atmosphere, which results in a tornado landing in Nebraska a few weeks later. I’ll be doing my part to ensure a Broncos win today. I can only hope that the rest of you who don’t have tickets will be doing the same.
