Dear Editor:Mutual respect is primary for any discourse. I would apologize to supporters of Bush for any disrespect they feel from people. The animosity can be understood in context of the deadly effects of this administration and its control of media. In a nation where antitrust laws prevent monopolies by service providers, we have limited ourselves to one news bureau for dictating information to television, radio and newspapers. News has become a focused reinforcement for fearful reactions, complete with emotion-enhancing effects on radio and TV that internalize the dread of terrorism and violence. The presence of fear-based psychology, misinformation and silence about important issues in the media is the only thing that explains the ability of intelligent, sensitive people to support an administration that is invested in arms and oil, installed under fraudulent circumstances, is defying our Constitution, diminishing our civil rights, de-funding and rending education obtund, disassembling environmental protections to forests, air, earth and water, while promoting drilling practices that inject toxic chemicals into fractured aquifers, which are the primary water source of 55 million people. This is an administration that also promotes a ruthless war without end on defenseless peoples by vaporizing tons of depleted uranium in their towns. DU is a toxic heavy metal and mutagenic carcinogen that causes horrific birth defects and virulent cancers in people of all ages on all continents.I would apologize for any disrespect, yet I earnestly ask for all to recognize misinformation, broaden our information base and utilize logic in making more discerning decisions.John HoffmannCarbondale
