Olympic Development soccer tryouts in Basalt
The Aspen Times
The Colorado Soccer Association and the Basalt Soccer Club will host Olympic Development Program tryouts on April 2-3 at Crown Mountain Park.
The tryouts are part of an expansion of the Colorado Soccer Association to provide Olympic Development opportunities for elite youth soccer players in the mountain region.
Previously, players and families had to travel to the Front Range for tryouts, practice and training sessions.
The top male and female elite players from the Mountain Region will be invited to train with the pool of players that will be part of the all-star team that represents Colorado in regional and national tournaments.
The Basalt tryout sessions will run from 10 a.m. to noon for girls and boys born in 2004, 2003 and 2002.
For girls and boy born in 2001, 2000 and 1999, the tryouts will run from noon to 2 p.m.
As many as 100 players are expected.
Recently the Colorado Soccer Association merged the two largest mountain leagues (Western Slope Soccer League and Southwest League) to created a unified regional league for player development as well as referee recruitment and training and coaching education.
In conjunction with the merger, the Olympic Development Program was expanded for the Mountain Region players.
A regional tryout for the program will be held today in Montrose at the Sunset Mesa Soccer Complex.
An earlier event was staged at Canyon View Park in Grand Junction.
A special coaching education class will be held April 1-3 at Crown Mountain Park in Basalt.
