Oil and gas to be topic of forum at Basalt library

BASALT – “Oil & Gas,” the second part of a three-part “community conversation,” with a specific focus on Thompson Divide, will take place Wednesday from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the Basalt Regional Library.The discussion will feature Zane Kessler, director of the Thompson Divide Coalition, and Amelia Potvin, representing the Community Office for Research Efficiency. (Energy consultant Randy Udall, who was originally slated for the panel, has a conflict and will not be able to attend.)The conversation will explore how a community can in good conscience reject energy development while consuming those same energy resources. These programs are free and open to the public.The last in the series will take place Oct. 1 at 5:30. The discussion will focus on the challenges of water quality and quantity in the Roaring Fork and Colorado river systems.
