Officials: Man killed cat before Eldora shooting
Aspen, CO Colorado
BOULDER, Colo. ” Investigators say the man who shot and killed the general manager of Eldora Mountain Resort killed his cat before driving to the ski area with a gun.
Twenty-four-year-old Derik A. Bonestroo died in a gun battle with a Boulder County sheriff’s deputy while fleeing the resort Tuesday.
Authorities say Bonestroo shot 49-year-old Brian Mahon at the resort’s pump house about 7:30 a.m. Tuesday after yelling something about religion. Mahon was shot once in the head and once in the chest and died at the scene.
Boulder County investigators discovered the dead cat while searching Bonestroo’s Nederland apartment to look for a motive behind his behavior.
Cmdr. Phil West says it’s not clear if the cat was shot or stabbed, but said there was a lot of blood.
