‘Ode to Seniors (the Gray Panthers)’

Dear Editor:

To all my silver-haired friends

and those lucky enough to be bald.

It’s time to stand up and be counted

Our elected officials have stalled.

It’s time to be heard over their belligerent stances

Never underestimate the power of the Gray Panthers.

We’re tired of chasing rainbows

and dreams that never come true.

We’re tired of old politicians

that keep leaving us blue.

But don’t think we don’t have the answers.

Never underestimate the power of the Gray Panthers.

Most have worked hard all of their lives trying to do the right thing.

“In God we trust” is that still a must

We’re confused with all the lies and bling.

But don’t think we walk around in trances

Never under estimate the power of the Gray Panthers.

It is said this country is broke.

We’re not, we’re just badly bent.

It’s time to break up the old boys’ club with woman, heavenly sent.

Now is the time to move forward, not the next election.

Recall now, should be the Gray Panthers direction.

We’re tired of all the nuts, fruits and flakes.

A breakfast cereal this could be.

We’ve left you all with the best we could

But this is the future we could not see.

Politicians and diapers should be changed often for the same reason.

The Gray Panthers will make sure of that though every season.

It is said by some the time has come to put us out to pasture.

But we all know what smells like hell and lies out there

Or is the meeting room door open, I ask ya.

We have the power and the brains but don’t like many official answers.

But never underestimate the power of the Gray Panthers.

We’ve heard over and over about the “cliff”

I wish it was that know-it-all from “Cheers.”

We just might be better off with Cliff and Norm

Nothing like a better future and a few beers!

So listen up my friends, let us take no more chances

And never ever underestimate the power of the Gray Panthers!

It ain’t easy being the Duke of Downtown these days.
