Obituary: Linda Vroom

Linda Vroom died on Saturday, Aug. 16, after a short bout with cancer. She was 52.Linda was a person of many talents. She loved to sing and play the flute. She grew up in Aspen, and lived in Mexico for many years. She survived the Mexico City earthquake, rescuing an infant from a third-story apartment building and jumping out of a window with the child. Linda also enjoyed cycling and was trainer for a cycling team in central Mexico before returning to Aspen in the late 1990s.Linda also had a tremendous talent for pairing wine with food, and helped others at Aspen Wine & Spirit as well as The Cooking School of Aspen. She moved to Napa Valley, Calif., two years ago to pursue her education to become a sommelier.She is survived by many family members, including her sister, Laura Moth, and children Kareena and Paul; uncle Roy Vroom and aunt Helen Dersahagian; nieces Sarah and Kathryn Vroom; cousins Holly Vroom-Roberts of Aspen and Jeff Vroom and his children, Crystal, Danielle, Alena Chiara, Brennan, Noelle, Christian and Murina Vroom, cousin Jay Dersahagian and his children, Alyssa and Ty. Linda is also survived by many family members on the East Coast. She was preceded in death by her brother, Paul, father Jacob and mother Muriel.An informal gathering to remember Linda will be held at Herron Park on Thursday around 11 a.m. A service begins at noon followed by a potluck picnic.In lieu of flowers donations can be sent to VNA and Hospice Foundation, 700 Claremont St., Suite 200, San Mateo, CA, 94402-1448, or by calling 1-800-541-5045.
