William Wallace Boyd
February 6, 2018
William (Bill) Wallace Boyd, born in the Bronx, NY on June 19, 1931, beloved husband and very best friend of Mary Boyd, died suddenly on January 22, 2018. He leaves behind daughter, Heidi Trebour (Eric), grandchildren Evan, Emily, Hannah, Bowen, and Sarah Trebour of Ivy, VA and Raven Alexander Kopp of Philomath, Oregon. Preceded in death was his son, Franz A. Kopp and his first wife, Patricia McGrath.
Bill served in the Navy during the Korean War and moved to Colorado in 1968 for skiing but soon discovered that summer offered days filled with the Aspen Music Festival and beautiful Rocky Mountains. He lived a full life: loved the mountains and outdoors; skiing, including helicopter skiing in British Columbia, Canada in his 70's; entered the Aspen Uphill Race at age 72, a 2.5 mile, 3,000 ft. vertical climb to 11,212 ft. and came in 1st (in his age group!); fly fishing on the Roaring Fork and Hunter Creek in Aspen, Colorado; sailing in the Caribbean, Mediterranean and Sea of Cortez; cycling in Europe; clay pigeon shooting with his pals; and volunteering in Holy Comforter Catholic Church's Soup Kitchen and Outreach program.
Being a grandfather completed his life and brought him incredible joy. Known as "Bobop" to all the children, he was deeply loved and so enjoyed encouraging them in all their endeavors. He was always available to help, offer advice, tell stories and even tune their ukuleles and guitars and teach piano technique. Many hours were spent with our sweet Raven creating Lego wonders.
He was the epitome of a well-rounded soul: kind, loving and a wonderful human being with a sharp wit who was well loved and will be sorely missed by family and friends in New York, Colorado and Virginia and Canada.
A reception to celebrate Bill's life will be held from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, February 10, 2018 at Lake Monticello Golf Club, 51 Bunker Boulevard, Palmyra, Virginia 22963. The main gate and Turkey Sag Gate (Hwy 53) will be alerted to visitors wanting access.
Burial will be private at a future date.
