"You must live in the present,
Launch yourself on every wave,
Find your eternity in each moment."
— Henry David Thoreau
With very heavy hearts we announce the passing of an amazing husband, a loving son, a dedicated father, a loyal friend. Scott Harold Carlson, 57, left us on June 4th at St. Joseph's Hospital in Bellingham, Washington.
He was an adventurer and a craftsman. He lived life in the moment — always finding that tree to climb, the wave to ride, the road less traveled.
Scott was born and raised in St. Paul, Minnesota. He shared his parents' love for travel which led him to live in some fantastic places, including France and Australia. He made Aspen, Colorado, his home for many years working both in the ski industry and construction. On a ski trip to Whistler he met a girl named Sue, and the two had an instant connection. Sue then followed him to Brisbane, and then to Aspen to live. Several years later, Scott followed her back to the Pacific Northwest to build a home and raise a family.
Over the years, Scott's adventurous spirit found him in the mountains, in the waves, and on the fairway greens. He always kept his girls close by his side, inspiring them with his zest for life and encouraging them to find the fun in every moment. He loved to cook and he loved to create, and he took every opportunity to share his passions with his family.
Scott's passion to build led him to work on some amazing projects. He shared his talents on jobsites across the Western US and Hawaii. He was fortunate to work alongside some of the finest people in his craft, and for that he was always grateful.
Scott is survived by his wife of 25 years, Sue; his two beautiful daughters, Samantha and Halle; his parents, Harold and Betty of Minnesota; his sisters, Jody Bogner (Brent) of Nebraska, and Jill Dawson (Brian) of Florida; his loyal sidekick, Stella; and much more family across the US and Canada.
We are missing you, Scotty. Your spontaneous spirit will never be forgotten.
In honor of Scott and his remarkable life, please consider contributing to the Scott H Carlson Memorial Scholarship — Donations can be made through Peoples Bank (WA State) to the Scott H Carlson Benefit Account.
