Ruth Grinspoon

May 24, 1933 — September 4, 2018

On September 4th Hospice and several friends assisted Ruth (Seitlin) Grinspoon away from pain and 85 years of life's aggravation.

Born May 24th, 1933 in Vienna, Austria of Americans, Alice Menaker and Percy Seitlin, who were working to defeat Franco, Ruth was raised in Grenwich Village NYC, Where she attended the Little Red School House.

She married Kenneth Grinspoon and they had two daughters, Elizabeth and Jennifer. "It was not a successful marriage." Ruth worked first as a teacher, then as a librarian for the New York City Board of Education, always in Manhattan.

Coming to Aspen during her sabbatical 27 years ago, she could often only afford to stand outside the music tent. In more recent and secure times she wouldn't miss concerts from her seat inside. Ruth split her retirement between her Chelsea apartment, Aspen, and traveling. Never buying Aspen property, she stayed first at the Holland House, then the St. Moritz, and finally the Hearthstone, meeting dearly held friends. Pursuing those friendships, especially in Australia, she earned uncounted flyer miles. Scuba diving was a passion. Never a good skier, she was proud of her nerve. Dr. Andrew Holwell of London and Richard Glazerman of L.A. were treasured friends.

"My biggest regret is that I won't be able to proof read my obituary," she said, after dictating this.
